Leashes and Lovers Book Launch Party

When I was invited to attend the Leashes and LoversBook Launch party at the BLVD Nightclub in Manhattan a few weeks ago, I was as happy as a pup in the woods.

Being with Butterscotch has been one of the best relationships I’ve ever had. Better than my relationships with the Easter bunny (we won’t even go there), the pet hamster I had when I was a kid, and even the mild flirtation with parakeet I fell in love with at the vet’s (Hoboken Animal Hospital). This is my Butterscotch. Isn’t she a beauty? Honestly, I don’t think I can live without her.

This is one of the cool pups from the party:Leashes and Lovers As a crazy dog lover, I’ve been accused of being the too doting mom (e.g. giving a puppy kosher glatt beef and sprinkling Parmesan on her dog food when she was being finicky). Excessive? Perhaps, but not in my books.

I don’t typically write about dog stuff on my blog (ahem, it IS a beauty blog, after all), but I do believe in writing about subjects that make you look and feel beautiful. And hence, this post. Sheryl Matthys, author of Leashes and Lovers: What Your Dog Can Teach You About Love, Life and Happiness talks about how our relationships with dogs can influence our relationships with other people. Because of their unconditional love, dogs help us realize that true love never wavers. It is steadfast and loyal and solid as a rock.

Her book covers several subjects, but some of the key topics she addresses are:

– Listening

– Loyalty

– Viewing pets as partners

– Building the blocks of communication

– Apathy

– Reliability

She writes in an easy, breezy tone and the book is filled with tons of anecdotes so that the reader can really relate to how dogs can help you become a better human being. On the first day of the official launch, the book went to #5 on Amazon.com in the Animals and Pets category, joining well known author, the famed Dog Whisperer Cesar Millan.

If you’re a dog lover who wants to learn from your pooch, don’t even think twice. Buy this book! It retails for $19.95 at Amazon.com.
