Dogs & Love – Let your dog fetch you some love

Ever wondered what makes a “Poodle person” a “Poodle person?” Well, what attracted you to your dog may just be the answer to what you seek in a mate!

Unbeknownst to you, you may have sought the qualities in your dog to fill what you’re lacking. Seek those similar attributes in a potential mate; and you are on the track to a more whole, centered and fulfilled relationship.

I’ve analyzed 5 categories of attributes to point you in the right direction just in time for Valentine’s. Many more breeds are included in the book, Leashes and Lovers: What Your Dog Can Teach You About Love, Life, and Happiness.

Attention

If you crave attention, having an attractive or unusual dog inspires others to comment on your dog. A few breeds include the Chinese Crested, Chow Chow, Great Dane, and the Hungarian Puli. I met Louie with his Great Danes in New York City where Louie admitted, “ I get silly comments, like ‘What are you doing with those horses in this town?’”

But comments don’t have to be positive for you to gain attention. A companion willing to feed you daily doses of attention may result in a lasting relationship.

Exercise

If it’s a healthy body and mindset you crave, adopt an energetic dog such as a Border Collie, Golden Retriever, Jack Russell Terrier, or Labrador Retriever.

But, exercise wasn’t Frasier’s only desire when he adopted Jessie, his Border Collie. Whether he realized it or not, he was hoping Jessie would combat his shyness. Frasier said, “Jessie is a green light for people to introduce themselves to me.” For Frasier, Jessie will help find him an outgoing girl to balance him out.

Companionship

For companionship, you sought a dog for loyalty and leisure. Some breeds that fit the bill are the Eskie, German Shepherd, Pug, and the Thai Ridgeback.

When I asked Laura how her Thai Ridgeback is like her, she replied, “We both like to watch TV and eat.”
But, a companion dog doesn’t mean you are unmotivated spirits. Atka, “The Amazing Eskie” skateboards, and jumps through hoops for his owner Thy Nguyen Cavagnaro. When you desire companionship, you seek enrichment in someone to fulfill your life.

Calmness

Think about finding serenity alongside a Basset Hound, Great Pyrenees, Greyhound, or the Newfoundland.
You want inner peace and not a relationship that drains you, as you already may be a Type A personality, seeking someone Type B to smooth any rough edges.

Love

If it’s more affection you want, try a Beagle, Chihuahua, Dachshund, and various toy breeds. When you crave love, you sense a dog is drawn to you. When you open your heart to trust – that feeling transcends to those you meet which leads you to be more desirable.

The All American: Mutt

Maybe you’re drawn to the “mixed breed” which can be sweet, hearty, and a most interesting looking dog. This signals you’re versatile, compassionate, and love adventure.

But, in the dating department – careful that you don’t seek the “person” who may have issues you can’t handle. You may really be masking what you’d like to improve about yourself – but can’t – because you’re too occupied with fixing everyone else.

Designer Dogs

Some of the most popular hybrids are the Chorkie, Labradoodle, and Puggle.

In the human department, a “designer date” may be alluring, but be careful to avoid seeking dates based merely on appearance, status or net worth alone; you may be bitten in the behind.
